Challenge 1 – People Watching

I’ve been cleaning out my closets in preparation for our special new addition and I came across 20 of the prettiest little greeting cards. I must have bought them over two years ago but never used them (I do the same thing with Christmas cards). I know how much it brightens my day to receive any kind of handwritten note so I initially decided that my first Two Week Challenge Project would be to send out thank you cards to people in my life.

But then I decided that was too easy.

The purpose of this project is to step outside my comfort zone and really reach out to people. So, in addition to the thank you cards I really am going to write and send out to people I know, here is…

Challenge 1:

Observe the actions of others over the next two weeks. Have all 20 cards on hand at all times.

Part 1 – If someone is observed performing acts of kindness, or going out of their way to make someone’s day a little brighter, write them a note in one of the cards telling them how much their actions are appreciated and walk up and hand it to them. Do this for 10 people.

Therefore encourage one another and edify one another, just as you are doing. ~1 Thessalonians 5:11

Part 2 – If someone looks like they are having a bad day, are excessively grouchy, or seem lonely, sad or depressed, write them a note telling them they are being prayed for. Make the note relevant to them so they will know someone cared enough to make sure they knew that they mattered. Walk up and hand it to them (unless they’re really mean then just throw it at them and run – no I’m kidding). Do this for 10 people.

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.~Joshua 1:9

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. ~Psalm 119:105

Right then, here we go!

  1. what a wonderful idea. i look forward to hearing your stories about this…..small acts of kindness do really change the world…thanks for sharing this

  2. Great idea!!! Love it!!! Can’t wait to hear how it goes!!! 🙂

  3. I love this!!! May I repost on my blog???

  4. Actually, I’ll just pass along the link so that they’ll come and visit you…

  5. Thanks! Feel free to repost – we’ll spread the goodness! 🙂

  6. Thanks to journeytoepiphany, I found this site. Great idea; especially part 1. Part 2 seems a little condescending to me, maybe the right person, place and time. I never forgot the feeling when someone announced to me that she was ‘praying to the patron saint of lost causes’ just for me. Yes, I was struggling, but far from lost!

I sent thank-yous every day during lent. A great surprise to me: how much it lifted my spirits.

  7. I started writing a post a few weeks ago about People Watching and it is still in my notebook waiting for its conclusion. Maybe I will find the final words at the end of my box of cards. 🙂

  8. Excellent idea!

  9. Thank you all for the encouragement and especially to those who are going to do this with me! And to oncealittlegirl, I appreciate your concern and will keep your comment in mind. I’ve had miserable times in my life when someone going out of their way to make me smile has meant the world to me. That’s all I hope to do.

  10. I can’t wait to hear how this goes – especially since (if my math is correct) you’ll be giving out 1-2 cards a day!

I just prayed that God would give you discernment to give the cards to just the right people (who are ready for a little encouragement and will take your sweet gesture as it’s meant).

  11. Hope my last comment made sense. Really tired. And should probably get offline.
