No Fear In Love

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” ~ 1John 4:18

What are you afraid of?

Isolation? Public speaking? Social situations?

I used to have a pretty big fear of heights. I know it’s a pretty common fear, actually, but conquering your fears is a big part of life. Everybody has fears. I spent years telling myself, “Don’t look down. Keep looking up, look straight ahead. Whatever you do, for the love of God, don’t look down.”

Don’t look down. Don’t lose focus. Keep looking up.

Perfect example:

Matthew 14: 24 – 32

Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!”

But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here!”

Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”

“Yes, come,” Jesus said.

So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted.

Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?”

When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped. Then the disciples worshiped him. “You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.

It was not until Peter took his eyes off Jesus and allowed himself to be overwhelmed by the circumstances surrounding him that he began to sink.

Infertility has its own special way of striking fear in the hearts of women.

Childlessness……Miscarriage…..…Failure………………………Heartbreak

If we all lived in fear, then we would never continue trying. If we never overcame our fears, we would never dare to hope for that beautiful day when we bring a baby into our homes and into our lives. If we spent our entire lives looking down and being afraid of the circumstances surrounding us, we would miss the glory to be given to each of us when we keep our eyes on Jesus.

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”~Deuteronomy 31:8

Reach out your hand and believe. Put aside your doubts, and take that first step of faith into the unknown. Don’t look down. Don’t be afraid. Just believe that this is the path you are meant to take. Know that as long as you keep your eyes on God, you will be safe. You will not sink. You will not fail.

For I hold you by your right hand—I, the Lord your God.  And I say to you, ‘Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.’ ~Isaiah 41:13

No hesitation. No doubt. No fear.

Just love. Tons and gobs of love.

  1. It is so easy to let fear rule over our everyday choices/decisions. I will make more effort to stop & look fear in the face and demand more of my life back!

  2. I needed to be reminded to move past fear today. Thanks!
